The Institute of Global Value Inquiry (IGVI) is inviting applications from scholars specializing in African feminist philosophies to join the African Gender Equality Research Group. This initiative aims to bring together researchers across Africa to critically engage with African philosophies, values, and norms in the context of global values.
About the African Gender Equality Research Group
This research group seeks to explore African philosophies, gender equality discourses, women’s empowerment, decoloniality, and Indigenous knowledge. The goal is to address socio-cultural, political, and economic barriers to gender equality while fostering knowledge exchange between Africa and other regions. Selected scholars will actively contribute to IGVI’s annual conference and the Journal of Global Value Inquiry.
Benefits of Joining the Research Group
Selected scholars will be appointed for a four-year term and will receive a monthly stipend of €800. The group will organize two conferences per year, providing members with platforms to share research findings and contribute to the global discourse on gender equality.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be based in Africa and employed by or affiliated with an African university.
- Hold a PhD in philosophy or a related humanities discipline.
- Specialize in gender equality research, decoloniality, feminist philosophies, epistemologies, and methodologies.
- Female feminist scholars from anglophone West Africa are strongly encouraged to apply.

- Curriculum Vitae (CV) (max. six pages)
- List of Publications
- Three to five research articles (max. five article-length works or two book-length works)
- Summary of expertise in gender equality (max. six pages)
- Research proposal outline (max. two pages)

A. Philosophical and Theoretical Issues
- African Indigenous philosophies and ethics on gender norms and values
- African Indigenous knowledge systems and global values
- The role of Indigenous knowledge in promoting gender equality
B. Feminist Philosophies, Epistemologies, and Methodologies
- Epistemic freedoms, injustices, and values in African feminist studies
- Decolonial African feminist epistemologies
- Feminist research within African philosophies
